Doc

Joyce and I were going down the trail in Laguna and we had to go through a gravity gate, which is a swing gate with a bar at the bottom, elevated about a foot or so. Doc wouldn't go. Mind you, he has been through plenty of gravity gates, but he didn't want to go through this one. Probably he thought he would bump his legs or something. I don't know, except he sometimes gets something in his head and then there we go.

Here are some photos of Betsy taking Doc over some small jumps to give him confidence. After a few lessons like this, he finally went through the same gate when we went on the trail again.

Doc

Here are some more photos of my horse, Doc, taken in the Laguna Mountains last Thursday. He's tied to a high line and he's wearing a fly mask. A word about the high line: it's actually supposed to be tied high--at about 7 feet. The problem is that I am only 5 feet 3.5 inches tall, so I could only reach so high--not even close to 7 feet. It worked anyway. Twos photos are of Joyce's horse, Omar. The rest are of Doc.

Trail Ride on Thursday

This is a picture of Doc standing at the horse trailer in the Rooster Tail parking lot in the Laguna Recreation Area. This is where we've been riding lately. We used to park at Wooded Hill but found the Red Rooster parking area a lot easier to get in and out. Wooded Hill has a long, bumpy road before you get to a very small parking area. Red Rooster is right off Sunset Hwy and has several long rig parking spots. The only drawback is that it's across the street from a fire station. They just love to sound the siren over there.

Doesn't Doc look great wearing his treeless saddle? So handsome!

We didn't ride last week because Joyce was out of town and it was Spike's grooming day. The week before we had a great ride. We took the Big Laguna Trail so we could get a view of the lake.

This is a patch of lupin we came across.

You can't really see the lake, but it's out there just past the trees.

An off shoot trail to the left brought us to the Campbell-Chilwell Family Cemetary

The  monument reads:   IF YOU SEEK THEIR MONUMENT, LOOK AROUND

Cryptic, huh?
