Sambo Goes Visiting

This morning around 11, we took Sambo for a car trip to visit some friends who live in Descanso, about 20 minutes away. Gloria and Pat are real cat lovers, so I felt we would be welcome. Sambo and I visited Gloria in the house while Dennis discussed some work projects with Pat outside on the patio. Sambo got something to eat and drink and then went on a tour of the house. Meanwhile, Gloria and I got involved in conversation and when we looked around, Sambo had disappeared.

We couldn't find him anywhere, so we went outside to play with Gloria's dogs, Jack and Jill, and her horse, Ginger, who thinks she's a dog. Dennis and Pat said they would do a home search for Sambo. When we got back, they had found the tiny black cat under a piece of furniture in the corner of the room. Very dark under there. Very dark kitten.

All was well, I cuddled Sambo on the way home and he fell asleep.

On Thursday, I took the 3 kittens to the vet for their second set of shots. While there, they brought out a tiny black kitten who was the only kitten left from a litter of 3 kittens. Two had been adopted and the little black kitten was lonely without his litter mates. So now he lives here with the other 3 kittens. He is so adorable and loving. He rests against my chest and purrs. Unlike the other 3 kittens, who have each other to play with, this one likes to be held by people. I think I'm in love.

The people at the vet's office thought he should be named Diablo because he had devil ears (huh?), but I was thinking Midnight (no, too obvious). We finally settled on Sambo (remember Little Black Sambo?), even though the children's story was banned for being racist. Despite that, the name stuck.

Note the devil ears.
