Poor Dot got spayed Friday. I picked her up on Saturday and she was wearing this "loaner" collar which has to stay on for 5-7 days. An improvement on the typical E-collar (cone), but poor baby.

Movie Tuesday
We really liked this Tuesday's movie: A Theory of Everything, a fascinating look at the life of astrophysicist Stephen Hawking. At 21, he received the news that he had a debilitating disease, ALS, and had only two years to live. Despite this prognosis, he marries fellow Cambridge student Jane Wilde and goes on to have a family of three children while he pursues the question of Time and the theory of everything. At 72, he continues to live a remarkably productive life, far exceeding expectations. This is a movie to see.

Thanksgiving Revisited
We just had leftover turkey and fixings in the form of hot turkey sandwiches, mashed potatoes and the cranberries we forgot to put out on Thanksgiving. It was very good. Yum. Now we're watching How to Train Your Dragon 2 which we downloaded from Directv. Later we'll finish up the pie.
Otherwise, it's been a normal Sunday except I tripped over Dot and fell on my arm and butt in the dining room. Tile is very hard.
Right now Dot is chasing Flash around the living room. Hope she wears out soon.

Thanksgiving
We had a quiet Thanksgiving this year...only Dennis, Mom and me. We fixed a turkey breast in the crock pot and had mashed potatoes, broccoli, and hot rolls with it. Dennis cooked everything, which was a treat for Mom and me. We bought a berry and an apple pie for dessert.
Movie Last Tuesday
So last week we saw Jon Stewart's movie, Rosewater, depicting the arrest and imprisonment of journalist Maziar Bahari in Iran. We thought the movie was well done, if a bit slow at the beginning. Aside from the terrible ordeal of Bahari, the movie illustrates a slice of life in Iran that we ordinarily would not see.

Movie Tuesday
You probably don't want to see Interstellar despite all the excellent reviews (there are bad reviews also). I'll tell you why I didn't like the movie: The music is LOUD--so loud you can't hear what the actors are saying. It hurt my ears and I couldn't get over the morose music blasting and taking over the content of the movie. It shook our seats, which I imagine it was supposed to do to make it realistic. It ruined the movie in my opinion.
Science buffs will probably enjoy the movie for all the glitz, but I found the premise depressing. Earth is dying (remember climate change?) and a farmer (former engineer/pilot) flies a spaceship through a wormhole searching for a planet suitable for human life. There was some thought of sending people there to live, but ... well that's a spoiler.

Dot's 1st Training Day
On Friday, Nov. 7. Dot had her first training day at Rachel's house. We learned how dominant she is by watching her with M'Liss's schnauzer, Max. Max learned to avoid her and play with the whippets instead. That was fine with Dot.
Our homework was Come, Scoot, Submit to being held and brushed, and Wait. She did pretty well.

Movie Tuesday
Today we went to Grossmont Theater to see The Equalizer, loosely based on the TV series of the same name. Did we like the movie? Well, Denzel starred in it, so...yes, of course, we liked it. Denzel is magical...you'd for sure want him on your side. Lots of violence, but worth it just to see Denzel walk. Go see it.

Dot - October 1
Today was Dot's 2-week anniversary (9-17 to 10-1). I took her to be groomed, but there was some mistake in their calendar and the groomer wasn't there. So we came home and I gave her a bath. She was pretty good about it and smelled a great deal better afterward.
Later we took a walk to Grandma's house and played with her and Honey for awhile. On the way back, Dot was sniffing around a big muddy hole and fell in. So she got two baths today.
Dot is learning how to Sit. She's acquired a lot of toys and loves to plat with them. Mostly, I have to get down on the floor with her and Flash and play with them both.
I wish I was 20 again.

Who's got the Dot?
I do. Let me introduce Dot, our new Yorkie, who came home with us today. We bought her from a breeder in Rancho Santa Fe. Dot is 4 months 6 days old. She was born on Mother's Day, May 11, 2014. She is around 5 lbs. and will be a blondie, we think. Here she is.

Movie Tuesday
Movie Tuesday a little late. Last Tuesday we saw When the Game Stands Tall, a high school football story staring Jim Caviezel. The story is about a high school coach who tries to make men out of boys through the game of football. We all enjoyed the movie and recommend it.

Happy 33rd Anniversary
This year, instead of doing nothing, well, dinner, we took a brief vacation to Coronado. We stayed at the Loews Resort on the Coronado Cays (see history). We arrived Wednesday afternoon after spending a couple of hours with our friends, Haim and Nettie. Wednesday night we saw a play at the Lambs Players Theatre in Coronado. The play was Les Miserables. Thursday we had breakfast in town and walked the length of the main street and back. Later in the afternoon, we checked out of the hotel and took a gondola ride in the cays. That was refreshing and fun. Then back home--a short but enjoyable trip.
