Ranch in snow

January 1, 2015. Panorama of the ranch covered in snow.

January

I've neglected my blog this year. So much going on I guess. In any case, I'm going to backtrack to the first of the year when we actually had snow on the ranch. Here are some photos of Dot, 8 mos. old experiencing snow for the first time.

Movie Tuesday

Friends don't let friends see Chappie. I hated this movie so much I don't even want to talk about it. Go to the Rotten Tomatoes site and read the reviews.

Movie Tuesday

Bippity boppity boop! Cinderella was my very favorite fairy tale when I was a child ... and still is. This Movie Tuesday was the new Disney Cinderella in iMax. It was an interesting mix of real people and very realistic animated animals. Amazing. Cinderella was played by Lily James (Rose in Downton Abbey), who was wonderful in the role. Another Downton Abbey actor, Sophie McShera (Daisy), plays one of the wicked stepsisters. This rendition of Cinderella was very similar to the cartoon version I loved as a child. Kate Blanchett was hateful as the wicked stepmother and Helena Bonham Carter was a terrific fairy godmother. All in all, it was a very entertaining movie that we all enjoyed.

Movie Tuesday

Our movie Tuesday was The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel starring Maggie Smith, Judy Dench, Dev Patel, David Strathaim, Bill Nighy, and Richard Gere. This sequel to the original Exotic Marigold Hotel movie centers around Sonny's (Dev Patel) plans to expand the hotel "for the elderly and beautiful" to a second location. With a cast like this, how could the movie help but be funny and heartwarming. We loved it.

Movie Tuesday

McFarland, USA is about a high school coach who sees something special about a group of immigrant teenage boys attending McFarland High School. Before and after school, these boys work in the fields picking crops. They run to school in the morning and run back to the fields in the afternoon. Seeing the speed of these runners, the coach creates a cross-country track program and enlists the boys as team members. What happens then? You'll have to see the movie to find out. Hint: McFarland, USA is an inspiring, entertaining true story.
