Happy Birthday, Gary

The family celebrated Gary's birthday on Friday with a dinner at Phil's Barbecue in Santee. Along with Angie, Gary, Mom, Dennis and me, Kristy came with Amanda and Jennifer and Danielle came with baby Morgan.

Fair Day

On Wednesday, Dennis & I took some time off and went to the Del Mar Fair. I think we only missed one (last year) in over 30 years. It was the same, with a few new foods to eat. Like a giant turkey leg wrapped with 1 lb. of bacon! No, we didn't eat that.

We had a sign made for my new craft room above the new garage. Very pretty.

Movie Tuesday

Movie for today was Man of Steel the new Superman movie. I heard that they didn't call the movie Superman something because of all of the superman actors who died or otherwise suffered from mishaps by being associated with the movies/tv serials. I don't know about that, but as far as this movie goes, it was the most violent of all the Superman movies I've seen. Plus, the four previews before the movie were dark, violent and depressing. My goodness, whatever happened to musicals?

Diets suck

Friday I received my big box of Medifast food. Saturday I started the program and was shocked at how bad the food tasted. Yuck. I finished the day and continued Sunday morning. However, I became so depressed and disappointed with the food that I decided to quit. I called the Medifast people and arranged to send the unopened food back. Really, it was bad, bad, bad. Nauseating.

Today was horseback riding day. Betsy came over this morning and I gave her her birthday presents and cake. After our ride, we went over to the glass shop and Betsy showed me the project she learned at Blue Dolphin last Saturday. I'm going to have to try it.

Colorado Vacation

Dennis and I drove to Colorado for a timeshare stay for a week in May. My friend from high school, Nancy, lives in Durango with her husband and grandchild, so we were able to spend some time with them. We went to Mesa Verde to see the cliff dwellings and on another day took the narrow gauge train from Durango to Silverton. On that day, only Dennis and I took the train. Nancy and Bill met us in Silverton, where we did some shopping and went to lunch. Then we drove back to Durango. The train ride was 3 hours long, one-way, so I'm glad we were able to drive back.

We stayed in Pagosa Springs at a very nice condo. It had three levels: on the bottom level there was a jacuzzi (that didn't work). On the mwain level were two bedrooms and baths, kitchen and living area. Upstairs was a loft. We never went upstairs because we were too lazy.

On the way home we were going to stay in Monument Valley, but there was no room at the inn. It was very windy, with red dust swirling around so we couldn't see the "monuments" very well.  We did stop at the visitor center for awhile, mostly just to break up the trip. From there we drove on to Tuba City and took a little break from driving. Then we pressed on to Flagstaff where we spent the night. Next day we returned home.

These photos are from our trip through the Indian lands from Arizona to Colorado:
